Resolve Outlook Password Prompt Issue.

Hi there, some time ago a user reported that his outlook keeps asking for his password several times a day. He is using Windows 10 and Outlook I set up a testclient and have the same issue. I even had problems setting up the account as the automatic discovery couldn't set it up. The Mac Clients are working fine. Only one user is working with Windows and has the described problems.

I really have no idea whats wrong and where i need to look. Any help or idea is appreciated. Brand Representative for AJ Tek. Run through my guide and it will get you fixed up. Looks like you have an AutoDiscover setup issue. Its a bit strange that it automatically creates credentials for outlook. Or is this normal behavior? But everything seems fine. Forgot to mention it in my liste of things i have checked.

Provide the most current version of the EnvironmentBackup. You don't have to recreate the profile after, nor restart Windows Outlook, yes.

AutoDiscover retrieves data consistently from the configuration services. It seems that the registry key did the trick. I recrated the profile just to be sure. So far everything seems fine. I will report back today evening if it's solved.

Outlook keeps popping up asking to enter password - no fixes - Microsoft Community - Subscribe to Help Desk Geek.

I recently got a helpdesk ticket for this teethy issue. Outlook was configured to connect to our Exchange server. At every launch of Outlook close and re-open , it will prompt for credentials.

We had checked on "Save password" and confirmed the password is correct. However it will annoyingly prompt for credentials again at every single launch. Check your outlook anywhere settings and make sure the server connection type is ntlm or negotiate.

Sounds like an issue with the settings there. Perhaps it is set to basic authentication. In my set-up it turned out to be the port, check if you have any alternative ports for poping and smtp except the standard and This happened and worked for a couple of our traveling users. Also for users on desktops, switching to non cached mode seemed to also work.

The AD Credentials have expired. Get User to change password, log off and log on with newly updated password. AD and Exchange are integrated together. So if the account password expires or is locked out then it prevents access to the mailbox associated with the AD account. As per Nathan, check credential manager - description of problem so far sounds like that could be the issue. Also, worth checking that account security settings haven't been changed.

Off the top of my head, I reckon that expired AD credentials are not likely to be the culprit - if I remember correctly, when your password has expired, you can't authenticate until a new password has been set disclaimer: it has been a while, apologies if I'm wrong!

Brand Representative for AJ Tek. This happens to about half our users when they change their AD password. Lewis' answer is the only thing that has worked for us and sometimes it takes deleting the saved password from the Windows Credential Manger more than one time.

I just wish I could find a reason why some get prompted and some don't. Nathan yap tried cleared the windows credential too but still same outcome. Thanks for pointing out. John and nasaruae: Yap done that too. AaronJBerger: Tried create a new Outlook profile and deleted old one too, but still same outcome. CMGL: Tried change to your setting but seems cannot connect, So stick back to our configured settings which is "Anonymous Authentication" and "Always prompt for logon credentials" is unchecked.

Thanks everyone for your valuable inputs. I notice one commonality among these incidents : They have all migrated to use a new computer.

They don't have this issue when they were still using their old computers. It is only after migrate tio new computers that they face this issue. Probably its a security policy setting somewhere which will not prompt for the very first device setup for exchange mailbox, but subsequent devices will need to everytime?

Hey Guys! The truth is out! I have managed to resolve it. Thanks to the Spice Community spirit! It turns out that it is this setting difference that resulted in the repeated prompt during launch:. This setting for the old computers' during exchange mailbox setup was " NTLM Authentication ", and the new computers which the users migrated to had this setting automatically set to " Basic Authentication ". If you have any wish to futureproof your Exchange configuration, please follow my directions above.

You didn't mention about what version of exchange you were using, but I assumed or higher, which introduced AutoDiscover and the ability of Exchange to populate the settings for every client so that you don't have to do it yourself. Just want to add that if your office client network setup is such that yu can connect via physical network cable to office LAN , and also to another alternative source of internet via wireless. The few machines I have checked, win 10 have not had any creds in the cred manager for outlook.

There are quite a number of machines that are not having this issue as well which makes me feel like it is a local issue and not a server side setting. Sorry gentlemen. Same issue. Never used to be for 2 years now.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Fumbled with this about a week now. Thanks Spicers thumbs up. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Adam CodeTwo.
